Grand Cru Classé de Margaux en 1855, Château Dauzac a une longue histoire et il en est redevable. Le respect de la nature est avant tout un legs qu’il faut continuellement entretenir.

La biodiversité est un engagement fort de la propriété depuis plus de trente ans, qui voit cohabiter de nombreuses espèces animales sur ses 120 hectares de vignes, de bois, de prés et d’étangs : moutons qui paissent dans le parc, vaches qui pâturent aux abords, aigrettes ou hérons qui trouvent un refuge… Il y a encore ces colonies d’abeilles installées dans les 18 ruches du domaine. Dans cet esprit ancré de longue date, Château Dauzac a été entreprise pilote du SME, le Système de Management Environnemental lancé par le Conseil interprofessionnel du vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) en 2011. Il a été certifié ISO 14001 dès 2013 avant d’obtenir d’autres certifications : Végan en 2016 et HVE 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale) en 2017.

Ces labels ne sont pas seulement des brevets de bonne conduite, ils attestent que des objectifs précis de développement durable ont été atteints. À la vigne, cela passe par l’utilisation d’engrais biologiques, l’absence totale d’utilisation d’insecticides et d’intrants CMR, le respect scrupuleux des zones de non-traitement, le travail du sol sur l’ensemble de la propriété… Et quand on a été pionnier de l’innovation dans le vignoble, en inventant notamment la bouillie bordelaise dès 1884, on ne cesse pas de comprendre, de chercher, de tester : pour réduire aujourd’hui l’utilisation de cuivre – admis en démarche bio mais non sans incidence sur la vie des sols –, les équipes techniques de Dauzac expérimentent depuis quatre ans un traitement naturel à base de micro-algues, de surcroît produit localement.

Au chai, les mêmes principes d’amélioration continue s’appliquent à l’outil de production, avec une réduction significative de la consommation énergétique ou un système efficient de traitement des effluents vinicoles.

Pour un domaine viticole, une démarche complète de Responsabilité Sociétale des Entreprises (RSE) passe logiquement par les engagements environnementaux. Mais pas seulement.

En effet, à Château Dauzac l’engagement prend également une dimension sociale, notamment grâce à l’application de l’équité des salaires de ses employés hommes et femmes au regard des fonctions qu’ils occupent. Pour son territoire également, en termes d’emploi et de relation avec les fournisseurs, en favorisant les circuits courts. Être en avance sur son temps, sur la réglementation comme sur les aspirations de la société, reste un serment de tous les jours.

Sustainable Biodiversity

Château Dauzac, a Margaux Grand Cru Classé – 1855, has a long history and is forever grateful for that. First of all, respect for nature is a legacy that must be continually nurtured. For over 30 years, the estate has made a strong commitment to biodiversity, witnessing the coexistence of several animal species on its 120 hectares of vineyards, woods, meadows and ponds: sheep graze on the estate grounds, cows in its vicinity, and egrets as well as herons also find refuge… Besides that, there are those colonies of bees living in the estate’s 18 hives. In that same long-established mindset, Château Dauzac became a pilot company involved in the Environmental Management System (SME) launched by the Bordeaux Wine Council (CIVB) in 2011. It was certified ISO 14001 as early as 2013 before obtaining other certifications: Vegan in 2016 and HVE-3 (High Environmental Value) in 2017.

Those labels are not only certificates of good management. They testify to the fact that specific sustainable development objectives have been reached. In the vineyards, that means using organic fertilisers, totally eliminating the use of insecticides and CMR input, scrupulously respecting non-treatment areas, and tilling the soil throughout the estate… And since the estate was a forerunner

in vineyard innovation in the past, in particular by inventing the ‘Bordeaux mixture’ back in 1884, we have never stopped striving to understand, research and test. For the past four years, the Dauzac technical teams have been testing a locally-produced, microalgae- based organic treatment, in order to reduce the use of copper – allowed in organic approaches but not without an impact on soil life. In the winery, the same principles of continuous improvement are being applied to the production tool, with a significant decrease in energy consumption and an efficient system for treating vinicultural waste.

For a wine estate, a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach logically entails environmental commitments. But not only that. Château Dauzac has a social dimension, first of all through the involvement of its employees, men and women alike, for whom fair wages are applied with respect to the positions held. For its territory as well, in terms of employment and relations with suppliers, by giving preference to local distribution channels. Being ahead of the times, ahead of regulations and ahead of the company’s goals, remains an oath we take on a daily basis.
